Serving at Church
Every believer has received a gift to steward. The question is not whether you have something to contribute to the church, but whether you are willing to use what God has entrusted to you in the service of others.
We at Grace Community Church are equipped for both the purpose and the practice of giftedness. Spiritual gifts are not spiritual trophies, personality labels, or reasons to compare ourselves with other believers. They are gracious provisions from God, given for faithful service. Their value is seen when they are exercised in love, humility, and harmony for the good of the church. A gift left unused may represent a missed opportunity to encourage, teach, help, show mercy to, or serve someone else.
Our church family needs members who welcome visitors, pray faithfully, disciple children, encourage weary saints, help families, serve students, show compassion, offer practical assistance, and support the work of the gospel behind the scenes. Some ministries are public; many are quiet. All are significant when they are offered to Christ and used to edify His people.
Scripture emphasizes the importance of spiritually gifted believers ministering to one another with biblical wisdom, encouragement, discernment, compassion, and help. The goal is not to draw attention to ourselves or make people dependent on us. Faithful service points people back to the all-sufficient Savior and His Word. When you serve, you serve like Christ with the aid of the Holy Spirit.
Perhaps you have hesitated because you do not know your gift. You can begin with the clear commands of Scripture: love one another, encourage one another, bear one another’s burdens, show hospitality, and make disciples. Then ask other members where they see opportunities and strengths in your life. You do not need perfect confidence before taking a faithful first step. Join a ministry, learn from those already serving, and exercise your giftedness by coming alongside others in our church family.
If you are already serving in one ministry, prayerfully consider whether the Lord may be leading you to join an additional ministry—not to collect titles or simply fill your schedule, but to strengthen the body of Christ and bless people who need the ministry God has equipped you to provide. Adding another ministry should be approached with wisdom as you consider your current responsibilities and commitments. Seek counsel, communicate honestly, and choose a place where you can serve consistently rather than impulsively. The aim is not busyness; it is obedient usefulness.
In this new, exciting season of ministry, we offer many avenues for service through children’s ministry, student ministry, music, outreach, prayer, special events, campus care, and practical member support. Our church body is strengthened when every member does its part. There is room for your hands, your voice, your prayers, your compassion, and your faithfulness. For the glory of Christ and the edification of His church, consider where else you might serve in this season.
